Roxy Chicken Jam

Today is the first day of the Roxy Chicken Jam here in Mammoth and the weather is perfect. This weekend is going to be amazing. We have the top women riders here and they are stoked on the course. Located on the side of Broadway run we have a hip that runs into a choice of a flat down rail or a down box into three jumps with the option of a up rail on the last jump that gaps to the landing with a few other jibs at the bottom of the course, and of course our super pipe. Check back with us for the latest updates on the winners from this weekend.roxy-sign-above-pipesecurity

Pow and Park

Yesterday was a very interesting day here at Mammoth. In the morning we cruised around getting amazing pow turns and dropping cliffs. In the after noon we rode park and tested the jumps and rails for the upcoming Roxy Chicken Jam this weekend and at sun set we had a shoot in the fresh cut pipe with Greg Bretz. Just another reason to come on out to Mammoth with friends and family and have the time of your lives.alex-falling-in-powbretz-life-at-halfpipe

A day to remember at Mammoth Mountain!

_mm_9169_mm_9228_mm_9301On Monday March 23rd we had a plan to build a jump off of Dave’s run first thing in the morning. Peter Morning called me the evening before and said that him and i had a chance to go out with ski patrol and get photos and footage of them throwing dynamite bombing the top of the mountain. I was very excited and could not wait to get up there the next morning. When i woke up the next morning everything seemed fine and everyone met at the unbound office at 6:15 Am. As time went on it got a little colder and more windy here at the mountain. We got up top and it was 65 mph winds and -20 wind chills. We ended up going out with the patrol anyways but were losing hope on building the jump we had planned for the morning. It was an amazing experience hiking the ridges with ski patrol as they lugged dynamite sticks off the top of the mountain into high winds headed right back into our faces. After we were done following them around the crew headed to the top of Daves run hoping for the winds to calm down and the Sky’s to clear. The weather did not seem too promising at the time so we took a vote and decided to head to the back side and see what the hemloks had to offer. After standing on the top of the hemloks and having it be just as windy we almost lost hope. The crew went down to a jump that Gabe Taylor had been talking about anyways to check it out. The second we got off the top of the hemloks the wind was much calmer and the idea of the jump was coming more of a reality. We ended up building it and waiting to see if the weather would hold up on our end, it did. This jump was the biggest jump ever built inbounds at Mammoth Mountain, It measured about 120 feet to the sweet spot. We got some sick shots that day so dont forget to check them out in the new Mammoth snowboard video by Play Big Productions ” Hot Laps “. Here are some photos of the crew hanging out that day. We had Gabe Taylor, Matt Hammer, Jared Dawoud, Alex Dawoud, Oren Tanzer, Peter Morning, Matt Morning, Greg Weaver, and myself Adam Lovejoy. I would like to say thank you to everyone for an amazing day, it was an experience i will never forget._mm_8696-copy_mm_8879_mm_8886_mm_8897_mm_9125

Update from the Hot Laps crew:

We had a great month starting in the early-mid February time period. It was dumping in Mammoth and the hill was really coming alive. Cody, Greg and Alex were taking advantage of it and managed to hit all kinds of stuff. I think Cody got like 5 shots one day. Our crew of Hammer, Peter Benchetler, Clint and myself had some good times in the backcountry and a few choice sessions up on the mt. It’s not that I don’t like filming on the hill, quite the contrary in fact, but it does take some patience. People see you posted up hitting something and just B line it for the landing every time. I don’t think they’re trying to mess it up on purpose it’s just funny how it can work out. I don’t have the same patience for the kook that stole my walkie-talkies however.

Peter Benchelter had a pretty brutal couple of weeks. If anyone thinks filming a video part is easy talk to Peter for a few. Let’s see, it started with the avalanche incident, followed the next day by a broken nose caused by flying off the side of a huge hip jump. We started finding some unique jib features in a secret location on the mountain and Peter was killing it. Right up until he caught his snowboard on the tow rope from the snowmobile towing him and flew into a big house type thing. Another avalanche, a few hearty bails, a rock that broke stuff on his sled and sent him flying, and a broken wrist on a rail. All in about two weeks. That’s one of the tough parts about filming, nobody sees all that goes into getting those video clips. 4-5 months edited into a tight little best of segment that can go by in a few minutes.

Greg Bretz came out into the powder for a week or two and handled business. That kid is good. Matt Hammer has been stomping like his normal self. I’m pretty sure he did the biggest switch method of all time, if not the biggest than definitely the one with the most steeze. Injuries have been plaguing a few of the crew, Alex and an ankle, Greg Bretz and his thumbs, Jared and his ribs/back and ankle at times, my rib, and Peter’s mess from above. All those problems don’t make things any easier but everyone has been powering through and getting things done when they need to.

We’re looking forward to another good couple of weeks of powder before the park season really begins. With Lonnie, Eddie, Tara and Molly in town it should be good. And rumor has it that Danny will be in town most of the spring celebrating his US Open win and getting ready for 2010 olympics.

Filming with legends

dsc04479-300x2252Whats up everyone? Today is a great day here at Mammoth Mountain. The skys are blue and the temp is perfect. For the last couple of days we have been filming a park update video with the crew. It has been a lot of fun getting back into the park scene especially with all the new jumps and features the unbound crew has been working really hard on to make the mammoth parks the best they can be. I got a phone call the other day from no other than Tara Dakides. She was wondering how things were going here in mammoth and said that she would be in town for the next week or so. I said everything was great and we would love it if she would come on out and do some filming with us and of course she agreed. I swear its like she never left, Tara has been killing it and riding with the crew like one of the guys. You can check this video out on the the video’s link just a click away. It has been quite a bit warmer this past week so the snow is soft and and ready for some fun in the sun. Here are a few photos of the crew hanging out. Dont waste your spring break wishing you were here, get off the couch and make it happen.dsc04480-300x2252dsc04474dsc04475dsc04481

Lizzard man ghost town

whats up everyone. Well it looks like we are gonna live to see another day. Last night Tyler Flanagan, Cody Rosenthal, Jared Dawoud,Tyson Carr, and myself, Adam Lovejoy went to do a double line rail session in the deep woods of a secret spot in a town that does not exist. For some odd reason there were abandon houses all around us but the electricity still worked in the homes. The rail session was going great until the generator ran out of gas and our flash lights ran out of batteries. As we all stood in fear Cody decided to take it upon himself to walk to his truck and go to a place that he knew of where he can pick up some more gas so we could continue to session the rails and get the shots. Tyson decided to go with him so Jared, Tyler and myself stayed in the pitch black waiting for them to come back. That was a bad idea. We started hearing weird things in the woods and were not feeling too secure. Then lizzard man came out of the woods and attacked jared from behind. LOL. only it wasnt lizzard man it was me and he got really freaked out. We all had a laugh as we walked toward the nearest light we could find to feel a little safer until the gas and the other guys arrived. They came back and it turned out to be a good night. Let me remind you this was at one in the morning and we didnt get out of there until almost two. So today we are up at Mammoth mountain and safe. It is a nice day up here in mammoth just a little colder than normal which is a good thing. This means the snow will stick around for that much longer. Check back with us to hear more stories about our next trip. I’m not too sure if any of us will be going out with cody again any time soon. Here is a picture of the lizzard man that attacked Jared, Tyson took this photo when we were leaving. He said he was in his shack watching tv at the time he grabbed his snowboard on the way to the truck.
