On OCT 4th 2009, Mammoth received 4 inches of fresh snow. Amounts varied and the higher elevations got more snow than the lower, but it was enough to bust out the old mailbox rail and do some jibbin. Before we know it this season will be upon us. Forecasts for the season sound promising, given the fact that it is supposed to be an el nino winter and we are at a solar minimum. These two combined means warmer oceans evaporating more water into a colder upper atmosphere, and that could result in a whole lot of snow. And with the weather the way it is already up here it seems to be very possible.
